EXTRA--Community Preparedness Education Session in Brownwood TOMORROW
Community Preparedness Education Session in Brownwood TOMORROW:
Tuesday March 25. Please plan to attend!
“This important session will equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to stay safe and prepared in disasters and emergency situations.”
If you haven’t started your emergency kit, or put together an emergency plan, or if you just want to meet your local emergency management professionals, plan to attend this meeting tomorrow, Tues. March 25, from 6-7 pm, at the Brownwood/Brown County Health Dept., 305 Booker St. in Brownwood.
This is the first event of its kind that I can recall, in over 26 years living in Brownwood. Even if you have started your emergency plan/kit, your attendance at this meeting will show our local emergency planners that there is a high level of interest in this topic. This may encourage them to schedule more meetings on a regular basis.
Brownwood Fire Chief Eric Hicks is the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Brownwood. Since the retirement of the Brown County Emergency Manager at the end of 2024, Chief Hicks has also been serving in that role for Brown County. I interviewed Chief Hicks last year for this newsletter, and I feel he is making every effort to be ready for disasters.
If you are concerned about the safety and potential impact of the proposed DeLa Express pipeline, currently planned to be routed just south of the access road (FM 45) on the south side of Brownwood, please bring your questions for our local emergency planners.
I hope to see you there!
Wildfire in Pipeline Easement Raises Landowner Safety Concerns
As just one example of safety concerns along pipeline routes, the Pauline Road wildfire last week in San Jacinto County, near Cleveland, TX, burned through an easement where two pipelines are already buried, and the DeLa Express pipeline is also planned to be built. Members of the Hold the Line campaign were monitoring the fire and its aftermath. Watch for more details in the next full edition of this newsletter.
